By choosing a site that is in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Qualified Census Tract, the project contributed to the revitalization and health of the surrounding area. With an Edible Garden On-Site to be Used in Cafeteria – 4,800 square feet of urban agriculture (herbs, multiple types of greens and lettuces, a variety of vegetables, and potentially fruits and berries in the future) will be put into place adjacent to the training facility. These fresh foods will be used by Levy in their meal preparation in the cafeteria, ensuring local and healthy foods are utilized, while also teaching Academy students about the food that they are eating and where it comes from.
The training ground has various features that reduce environmental impacts, including two quick-charge electric vehicle charging stations, the utilization of high-efficiency water fixtures to achieve 41.37% water use reduction, while using well water to irrigate playing fields and diverting 92.96% construction and demolition debris from the landfill.
