Since she was very young, Mariel has cared deeply about the environment and the synergies between preserving the planet, creating a desirable built environment, and advancing social justice. She loves optimizing systems to make them better, believing we have the power to make conscious choices that benefit both individuals and the world as a whole. She gets excited about challenging the status quo to develop solutions that create benefit for all, promoting sustainability and equity in both environmental and social terms.

Mariel started her career as a mechanical designer with a focus on sustainability, performing energy models and LEED MEP credits alongside drafting and design work. After obtaining her P.E. in mechanical engineering, she shifted focus to the sustainability side of the built environment, gaining experience in commissioning, energy modeling, and green building certification. She has worked with a variety of rating systems to bring green buildings to fruition throughout the United States, enjoying the opportunity to educate project teams on sustainable options and lead sustainability initiatives that result in more environmentally conscious buildings.

​In her free time, Mariel has always enjoyed creating things that are both beautiful and utilitarian. Additionally, she loves to travel and pursue new adventures. In her current phase of life, she is treasuring sharing these endeavors with her family.
